ToggleWhat Is A Tummy Tuck?
But what exactly is a tummy tuck, also known as “abdominoplasty?” We know that it flattens the stomach, but how? At the risk of getting too technical; it’s the removal of the excess skin and fat around our stomach that we don’t care for and wish didn’t exist. The skin is cut and then tucked into a different position to create a smooth and often flatter tummy.
In layman’s terms, “it makes our tummy look pretty.” You can usually hide the scar under a bikini, and clothes will fit so much nicer. The boost to your confidence is immeasurable.
Tummy Tuck Candidate
Ideal tummy tuck candidates in Charleston NV, are individuals who have maintained a stable weight for at least six months and follow a healthy diet but struggle with loose abdominal skin and weakened muscles that won’t respond to exercise alone.
This transformative body contouring procedure is perfect for those seeking to repair abdominal muscles that have been stretched due to pregnancy, significant weight loss, or aging, while simultaneously helping to remove excess skin for a firmer, more sculpted midsection.
Whether you’re a busy parent looking to restore your pre-pregnancy figure or someone who has successfully lost weight but needs that final step to achieve your ideal silhouette, our experienced team will evaluate your candidacy to ensure you achieve the beautiful, confidence-boosting results you deserve.

I can’t say enough about the level of kindness and professionalism, and concierge treatment I received at La Femme. Every single interaction was wonderful. Everyone in the office is top notch. Dr. Mason is a shooting star and fast on her way to surgeon stardom (and maybe as a podcaster as well). She is an artist and a perfectionist and is also honest, clear, straightforward, and no nonsense. Incredible bedside manner. By my third visit I felt like we were good friends. ☺️ Best of the best. Follow the office on IG!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Posted on Google![]()

Update: Dr. Mason did fix the problem I had from my surgery and they look much better. I still have so much pain in the scars on the left side which is disheartening, but overall I am now happier with the results. I had a breast reduction with Dr. Mason. While the sides where she did lipo did look reduced, my actual breasts never looked that much smaller. I did end up losing 25 pounds which helped later. My disappointment is with my nipples. They look so bad that I am embarrassed to be seen naked now. One is completely puckered/indented on one side. I had discussed fixing it with them and I reached out to them to try to schedule through their portal and they never responded to me. I will probably try to find another doctor at this point to fix it. The doctor did seem to be a nice, kind person when she did my surgery and she did find a breast doctor to remove the benign tumor I had before she did the reduction (at the same time).Posted on Google![]()

I’m so grateful for Dr. Mason and her team. They made me feel safe, well informed, and genuinely comfortable from start to finish. Everyone is incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating, and they were able to coordinate my consultation and procedure in the same visit, which made everything so much easier. I traveled from out of state to see Dr. Mason because of her reputation, and she truly lived up to it. I couldn’t have had a better experience. I highly recommend Dr. Mason and her team to anyone considering a procedure!Posted on Google![]()

I’ve researched getting a tummy tuck for years, And have had so many consultations, As soon as I went into this office and did my consultation, I knew this was the right doctor for me. The environment is warm and inviting, the entire staff is welcoming and helpful and Dr. Mason was kind, professional, and caring from day one. Unlike other offices, she listened to my concerns and was open and realistic about expectations for my results and never tried to sell me on anything or pressure me into booking. The pricing was direct and upfront, there were no surprises or “add ons” I received everything I was promised and am so happy I found La Femme. I would recommend them to any friends/ family and couldn’t be happier with my results so far.Posted on Google![]()

I am only about three weeks out from surgery so I haven’t realized my full results yet however I cannot say enough, good things about this facility. Every single person who works there is helpful, compassionate and communicative. Dr. Mason’s bedside manner is exceptional. She and her staff walked me through every aspect of the process ensuring I had realistic expectations. Dr. Mason was also very careful to ask probing questions and listen to my response to ensure she was giving me exactly what I wanted Not what she thought I should have. I had no complications thus far and very little pain. From Madison to Genesis and Kara, and the rest of the team I was very well taken care of. I opted to stay over in the surgical facility for peace of mind and I’m glad I did. Tiara looked after me very well and she had a fantastic disposition. She kept a very close eye all night and helped me walk often to ensure I began healing from the get go. Because I’ve not seen my full results yet, I can say that my absolute favorite part is the lymphatic massages with Arlene. She is wonderful, and I love that these were included in the healing process. I only wish I could continue them with her forever! I am so glad I chose them.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Mason and her team are wonderful to work with. I had my consultation for a breast reduction on 12/11/25, and I was approved by insurance within six days. Dr. Mason and her staff were extremely patient and answered all of my questions, whether in person or over the phone. My procedure was on 3/2/26, and the recovery process has been great so far. I’ve even received follow-up calls from Dr. Mason and her team after surgery, which I really appreciated. On the day of surgery, Dr. Mason and her team walked my mom and me through everything before the procedure started, which made me feel very comfortable and prepared. I’m so happy with the results. The final payment is due at the time of your pre-op appointment. My only issue was that it took the staff a little while to give me an accurate final amount. Also, you may have to pay a deductible for the anesthesiologist, and I didn’t find out how much that would be until the day of surgery. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend Dr. Mason and her team.Posted on Google![]()

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Mason and her entire staff. From my very first consultation to my surgery day and recovery, they were absolutely amazing — kind, professional, and so supportive every step of the way. I had been nervous for months about getting my breast reduction, but Dr. Mason made me feel completely comfortable and confident. She took the time to explain everything, answered all my questions, and truly cared about me as a person, not just a patient. Her staff went above and beyond — checking on me, keeping me calm before surgery, and making sure I felt safe and cared for afterward. The whole team radiates compassion and skill. I can honestly say this has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I finally feel lighter, more confident, and free of the neck and shoulder pain I’d lived with for years. Thank you, Dr. Mason & Team!!! 💕💕💕💕Posted on Google![]()

I had a breast reduction and upper back lipo with Dr. Rachel Mason, and the entire experience has been exceptional. I previously had a reduction in 2022 with another surgeon who did great work, but I realized I wanted a further reduction. I was referred to Dr. Mason, and I am so glad I chose her. From the first consultation, I felt comfortable and genuinely cared for. The staff is wonderful — Genesis has been amazing to work with, the office manager is warm and relatable, and their lymphatic masseuse is highly skilled. Dr. Mason herself is kind, soft-spoken, humble, and has a wonderful sense of humor. She made me feel heard, supported, and confident in my decision. A thoughtful touch that stood out was the beautifully packaged aftercare gift bag at my post-op appointment — a small gesture that truly made the experience even more special. I’ll continue to see Le Femme for follow-up care and lymphatic massages, and I highly recommend Dr. Mason and her team to anyone considering surgery.
Types Of Tummy Tucks
The options for tummy tucks differ based on the type of scar that is left after surgery. The decision is based on your body, where you have extra skin, and how much extra skin you have.
Mini-Abdominoplasty
If your extra skin is only below your belly button, you might be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck procedure. This cosmetic surgery has only one scar right at the bikini line, which is shorter than the scar for the full tummy tuck.
There is no scar around your belly button. You can expect to have a quicker recovery since you will have a smaller area that is being operated on. The same rules apply to preparing for the tummy tuck.
Full Abdominoplasty
This surgery is for women with extra skin both above and below their belly button. It is also a good option if you have separation of the “six-pack” muscles above the belly button. As this is a natural part of the aging process for women, the majority of women will be good candidates for a full tummy tuck.
This type of tummy tuck makes a longer incision in the bikini line, and one around the belly button. The extra skin is removed, and the waist is tightened by bringing the muscles back together in the middle. Your skin is pulled down and your belly button is put through a new hole in the skin that has been pulled down. Sounds intense, but the tummy tuck results are incredible as it’s turning back the abdominal clock.
Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty
This type of tummy tuck is for women who have more extra skin than can be taken care of with traditional tummy tuck. Some women who have lost a large amount of weight will need this surgery.
This surgery has the same low incision in the bikini line, but also adds an additional incision straight up and down in the middle of the belly to allow more skin to be taken out.
Liposuction With Abdominoplasty
Many women will have areas of unwanted extra fat, such as their love handles, that they would like to have smoothed out. A tummy tuck alone will not fully fix this, so liposuction can be added to the surgical procedure to take care of these areas.
Remember, the aging process affects each body differently and the needs of every Charleston woman are not the same. It’s important to keep in mind that a tummy tuck focuses solely on the abdominals, that said, liposuction is an excellent enhancement to help you reach your goals.
Plus Size Tummy Tuck
A plus size tummy tuck often referred to as high BMI abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed for tummy tuck patients classified as “overweight” or “obese” based on their BMI. This transformative procedure can have a profound impact on one’s life. Dr. Mason prioritizes patients’ surgical objectives, health, and unique anatomical considerations, customizing the procedure to each individual rather than adhering to a strict BMI limit.
Tummy Tuck Benefits
Fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, or the natural aging process can lead to the expansion and stretching of abdominal tissues and skin. Both men and women opt for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to achieve various cosmetic objectives. These may encompass:
- Enhancing abdominal tone and posture.
- Reestablishing a flat abdomen after pregnancy.
- Toning the abdominal area when it has thickened and stretched due to aging.
- Minimizing the visibility of stretch marks.
- Reducing the presence of a stubborn “pooch” or “spare tire” that persists despite diet and exercise.
- Boosting confidence and self-esteem.
- Expanding clothing choices.
Despite its extensive nature, tummy tuck surgery is a transformative procedure that is gaining popularity for rejuvenating one’s appearance and achieving tighter, more youthful abs.
If you have had children, a tummy tuck can be a common part of a mommy makeover. Women often have a breast lift or breast augmentation at the same time. Some women may wish to have a thigh lift or a labiaplasty. And of course, if you want any sort of facial injectables like fillers or Botox this can be done while you are sleeping.
Tummy Tuck Recovery
Tummy tuck recovery typically involves an outpatient procedure, allowing you to return home on the same day. After the surgery, it’s common to experience tenderness, swelling, and bruising in the abdominal area. To alleviate discomfort and reduce the risk of infection, Dr. Mason will prescribe appropriate medications.
During the initial recovery period, it’s essential to refrain from lifting or bending over. However, we encourage you to engage in gentle movements to improve circulation. Given the central location of your incision, it’s advisable to take it easy for two to three weeks. Dr. Mason will provide guidance on when you can safely return to work and resume your regular daily activities.
Engaging in strenuous activities should be avoided for at least one month, and you should refrain from workouts or exercise until Dr. Mason gives you the green light.

Tummy Tuck FAQS
Who Should Have A Tummy Tuck?
Many women qualify for a tummy tuck and to be honest, it’s a great surgery for many women. A lot of us can relate to this, you find that no matter how much you work out, watch what you eat or how much weight you lose, you tend to have some extra skin around your belly.
This can be especially true if you have had a baby or lost a good amount of weight in the past. The skin that was stretched out just never goes back to what it was. And we’re here to tell you, there’s no magic pill for this, sometimes abdominoplasty surgery is simply your best option. Your belly muscles might also have been stretched out and separated in the middle, making your waistline not quite as tight as it used to be.
Some women may also have stretch marks that they would like to get rid of. The sad truth is just what you have already seen: there is no way to get rid of that extra skin or those stretch marks or put your muscles back in place on your own. Truth is that it’s a part of the aging process. The good news is that we can fix these problems with a tummy tuck! Say hello to the new you.
What Should I Do To Prepare For Abdominoplasty?
Now let’s get serious, again, there’s no magic here so there are some preparations required. For starters, it is very important that you are at your goal weight at the time of your surgery. A tummy tuck is not a weight loss surgery. So, if you want to lose weight, make sure you do it before surgery and do it in a healthy way.
Second of all, the more weight you lose, the better your results and the lower your complications will be. And who doesn’t want the best results?!
Third, if you lose a lot more fat after you have already had a tummy tuck, it will leave extra deflated skin behind again and you could need another surgery. That is completely avoidable by preparing in advance, so please don’t be in such a rush that you jeopardize your results.
Make sure you are eating a balanced diet, get enough protein, and plenty of rest. This helps with healing. Do not smoke and avoid being around people who are smoking.
What Happens At The Initial Consultation?
During the initial consultation, you will be asked about your medical history to make sure you are in good health and a candidate for a tummy tuck. You will then discuss abdominoplasty specifically, and what your goals are.
Dr. Mason will examine you to make sure this is the right surgery for you. You will make decisions together on what surgery is going to be best for your body.
Remember, there are no one-size-fits-all, Dr. Mason will customize a plan just for you.
What Happens If You Get Pregnant Or Lose Weight After A Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck will not prevent or cause problems with you getting pregnant. However, if you do get pregnant or gain significant weight after undergoing a tummy tuck surgery, you risk undoing the results due to stretching.
How Much Weight Does a Tummy Tuck Take?
A tummy tuck typically removes 3-5 pounds of excess abdominal skin and tissue. An extended tummy tuck can remove significantly more weight, potentially 10-15 pounds when combined with liposuction to remove excess fat. The procedure tightens abdominal muscles rather than focusing primarily on weight loss.
How Thin Do You Need to Be for a Tummy Tuck?
Ideal candidates should have a BMI of 30 or below and be within 10-15 pounds of their goal weight. Patients should maintain stable weight after significant weight loss. This aesthetic plastic surgery works best when you’re near your target size, as the procedure addresses loose skin and underlying abdominal muscles.
What Will Happen After Tummy Tuck Surgery?
You will have an immediately visible result, but things will keep improving as they heal for the next several months. Swelling and discomfort will of course vary, but the recovery rules apply to everyone. You will need to rest and take time off work.
Most women take about two weeks off. It may be as much as six weeks before you are fully recovered and back to your normal routine.
While you are recovering from a tummy tuck, you will need to stay flexed at the waist (in a hunched over position) for the first 3 weeks to allow the abdomen to properly heal. You are to avoid overexerting yourself for about 4-6 weeks. This is the time for you to relax, heal, and take care of yourself.
You will also need to wear a “compression garment” for about 6 weeks after surgery. This is a tight piece of clothing that will help keep the swelling down and keep fluid from building up. It also provides comfort and makes you feel more supported and stable.
The majority of the swelling will be gone after 6 weeks. It is important to stick with your scar care routine which Dr. Mason will teach you.
Do’s And Don’ts For Tummy Tuck.
Do celebrate your decision. Do enjoy your new tummy. Do allow your confidence to skyrocket. Do take time to properly heal and take care of yourself. Don’t push yourself too hard. Don’t skip scar care or wearing of your compression garment.
Pregnancy after tummy tuck can result in the need for another surgery to correct these changes. This is why Dr. Mason recommends that you wait until you are done having children to have an abdominoplasty procedure in Charleston.
What Happens On The Day Of My Tummy Tuck?
You are likely to feel both anxious and excited, both are normal and expected. remember, you’re doing something for you, and you should feel excited! You will have a scheduled arrival time on the day of surgery. The Surgery Center team will be expecting you and check you in upon arrival. Please do not eat the morning of surgery.
Dr. Mason will come to talk to you before surgery and will make marks on your skin where your incisions will be, these will be as discussed in your tummy tuck treatment plan.
You will be able to talk about this, ask questions, and agree on it together. She will make sure there have been no changes to the original plan you agreed to. You will also meet your anesthesiologist. From there you will go back to the operating room and the anesthesiologist will put you to sleep. This is where you say goodbye to your current tummy and await your incredible results.
Abdominoplasty can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on the particular plan you have made. After the surgery is done, a tight binder will be placed around your abdomen to help keep everything in the correct place and to keep swelling down.
You will be brought to the recovery area, and once you are released, you will ready and able to go home the same day. While you are taking narcotics pain medication, you will not be able to drive so you will need to arrange for someone to pick you up from the surgery center.
This is a good time to switch your mindset to “let them look after me for a while,” as you will need your rest after receiving a tummy tuck.
How Many Sizes Are Lost After a Tummy Tuck?
Most patients lose 2-3 dress or pant sizes after tummy tuck surgery. Results depend on the amount of hanging skin removed and individual body composition. The procedure creates a flatter profile by removing excess tissue and tightening muscles, leading to measurable size reduction in clothing.
Does a Tummy Tuck Remove All Belly Fat?
A tummy tuck doesn’t remove all belly fat – it’s designed to eliminate excess skin and tighten muscles. While some fat is removed with the remaining skin, patients may need liposuction for additional fat reduction. Post-surgery, wearing an abdominal compression garment aids healing. Some combine it with breast augmentation procedures.
